Kaly Malayalam Movie Review & Rating | Joju George, Shebin Benson, Shalu Rahim

‘Kaly,’ which recently hit the theatres, is the Malayalam film, which has a team of newcomers handling the main roles in it. The trailer of the film had rendered great expectations.

The film narrates the story of a group of a handful of young friends in Kochi. The lives of these youngsters just pass by lightly with some pranks, love and friendship. Their lives take a serious note when they reach a villa. That proves a turning point in their lives. The film mainly showcases the incidents following this.

The characters of the friends are portrayed by Shebin Benson, Shalu Rahim, Indy and Anil K Reji. They have been successful in portraying the lifestyle of today’s youth. The performance and quality of the scenes, especially the sentimental ones, drastically go down and turns out to be unimpressive with the entry of Aiswarya Suresh, the heroine of the film.

Shammi Thilakan has excelled in the role of Balan. Tiny Tom, Baiju Ezhupunna, Balaji Sharma and Baburaj have all done justice to their respective roles.

Another terrific performer in the film is the character of the Police officer, Thilakan, played by Joju. The second half of the film was completely taken over by Joju’s impressive performance.
The songs of the film are not very relishing, whereas the background music in the film has helped the visuals attain a thriller genre.

The film starts off lightly with a blend of humour and light heartedness, and then transcends into the main serious plot of the film. As the film progresses, it provides the audience with room for expectations beyond the routine track. Though the second half, strengthened by Joju’s astounding performance takes off well, the film reverts to the ordinary routine screenplay by the end of the movie.
The film is not able to live up to the expectations it rendered to the audience in the beginning. Many a times, the logic sense in the movie appears compromised as well.

This film can be watched for a thriller film experience, and also, to enjoy the awesome performance of Joju.
