‘Street Lights,’ the Mammootty film released today, narrates the story of goons hunt by the police. Mammootty portrays the character of the police officer, James. ‘Street Lights’ is the directorial debut of the cinematographer, Shamdat. The film takes off with the incident of a midnight burglary in a house and its associated investigation. This case is taken up by James. Now, there is a specific reason as to why James took up the case. Initially, the reason seems hazed and mysterious to the audience, but as the film progresses, the plot reveals the exact reason behind why James took up the case. The punch of the film begins where this realisation takes place.
Mammootty has acted in the same style in many films of similar genre before. It is evident that efforts are taken to bank on the style and glamour of Mammootty, and thereby, creating another mass entertainer. This film has got a story flow somewhat similar to the Mammootty – Ranjit film, ‘Puthanpanam’ released last year. All the other characters, except the police and thugs, seem to enter the film, just as on purpose, due to the unexpected flow of the film. The presentation of ‘Street Lights’ is very engaging with heavy weight punches and thrilling police investigation. The film does not create boredom among the viewers for a second. Other than Mammootty, the film has Dharmajan Bolgatty, Hareesh Perumanna, Lijomol Jose, Soubin Shahir, Joy Mathew, Nandu, Neena Kurup and so on acting in it. The film has been released in Tamil as well after replacing some of the co-artists.
The cinematography is handled by Sadat Sainudeen, Editing by Manoj and the music is done by Adarsh Abraham. Mammootty himself has produced this film in the banner of Playhouse Motion Pictures. The shooting of the film has been done in Kochi and premises. The fact that the climax could be predicted beforehand, quite early, is one of the major drawbacks of the film.
In the present time, when the success of a film is highly dependant on the degree of punch in the climax scene, the fate of ‘Street Lights’ is yet to be determined. It has to waited and watched. Even then, as far as Mammookka’s fans are concerned, the film, surely, has a treatment that gives scope for celebration and excitement among the fans of the mega star. The film would certainly satisfy the Mammootty fans to the fullest. ‘Street Lights’ is receiving mixed responses on the first day of its release.
