The much awaited first film of Lal Jose-Mohanlal team, ‘Velipadinte Pusthakam’ is being released today. Watched the movie from S.P.Theatre in Peyad, Trivandrum at 8 a.m. fan show.
The story plot has a cinema within the cinema, the story behind it and above all the reality of the story in a merged manner. The film has Mohanlal playing the role of a priest and college professor, Michael Idiculla, who takes charge ad the vice principal of a college situated in the coastal area. The film covers the incidents happening inside the college campus. However the main theme of the film revolves around the production of a feature film by the college inmates in order to meet the expenses of the construction of a new college hostel.
The film becomes extremely interesting when the college inmates decide to make a film based on a real story associated with the college. Mohanlal has justified the role very well and has transformed his on screen character Michael Idiculla into a memorable one.
Salim Kumar’s character Dr. Premraj, who is commonly addressed as Kaamraj within the college is a praiseworthy. Anoop Menon appears as Bullet Vishwan, a crucial character in the film.
Anne Rajan portrays Mary and Siddique plays the role of Tharakan muthalali in the film. Besides them, Chemban Vinod handles the role of the villain character Kaka impressively. Other actors who acted in the film includes Priyanka, Alencier Ley Lopez, Sivaji Guruvayoor and so on.
Shan Rahman’s music is outstanding in the film. All the songs in the film, including the most viral Malayalam song in the recent times, Entammede Jimikki Kammal possess a good standard. However, Vishnu Sharma’s cinematography is mediocre in the film. It is interesting to note the difference evident while shooting the film within the film and that while shooting the real story.
This film is enriched with the acting talent of Mohanlal. Though the signature of the veteran director Lal Jose is obvious in certain scenes, the film fails to assert and convince the story well. This is a major drawback of the film. Certain emotionally hyped up scenes and thrilling moments in the film fails to leave the expected impact among the viewers.
In spite of all this, Velipadinte Pusthakam is a good film which can be watched in theatres.
The overall rating for Velipadinte Pusthakam provided by Kandathum Kettathum is 3/5.
